You Don T Need To Know Everything Before You Apply

You don't need to know everything before you apply.

I see engineers talk themselves out of opportunities all the time. They look at a job posting, see a few technologies they haven't used, and move on. "I'll apply once I learn Kubernetes." "I need to get more experience with Terraform first."

Meanwhile, someone else applies, gets the job, and learns those things on the clock.

Here's the reality. Technology changes fast. Whatever stack you master today will look different before you know it. The specific tools matter less than your ability to pick things up as you go.

Nobody meets 100% of a job's requirements. Those postings are wish lists, not checklists. Hiring managers know this. They're not looking for someone who already knows everything. They're looking for someone who can figure it out.

The real skill isn't knowing all the answers. It's getting comfortable with uncertainty. Being okay with not knowing and then going and finding out. That's what you actually do every day as an engineer.

If you're waiting until you feel ready, you'll be waiting forever. The learning doesn't happen before you get the job. It happens because you got the job.

Apply anyway. You'll figure it out.
