My Hobbies Look Suspiciously Like Work To Outsiders

My weekend plans? Probably tinkering with my homelab.

Maybe poking at a side project.

Or falling down a rabbit hole on some tool I've been meaning to learn. (It's always "just thirty minutes" and then suddenly it's 2am and I'm debugging DNS records for fun.)

My hobbies look suspiciously like work to outsiders.

People ask if I ever actually unplug. The honest answer is that this is how I unplug.

The difference between work and hobby isn't the activity, it's the pressure. No deadlines, no stakeholders, no Jira tickets. Just me and a problem I chose to care about.

I get that this isn't everyone's version of balance. My husband certainly doesn't get it. But if your weekend involves a terminal window and you're actually enjoying yourself, you're not doing it wrong.
