Mentormonday Quiet Favors
The things that actually moved my career forward weren't promotions or projects. They were quiet favors from people who remembered what it was like to be where I was.
A director who went to bat for a project I built when he didn't have to. A mentor who sent a two-line email that turned into my next job. A coworker who spent an hour at a whiteboard with me until a concept finally clicked.
None of them had to do that. They just did.
I think about those moments a lot when someone asks me for help now. A resume review, a call about breaking into the field, or advice on a tricky situation. It's easy to say you're too busy, but I know where I'd be if the people ahead of me had said that.
If you've ever taken that call or made that intro for someone, it mattered more than you probably know.
What's a small thing someone did for you that ended up being a big deal?
