Early in my career, that kind of honesty surprised me. I thought leadership meant having every answer queued and polished.
But the mentors who shaped me most were the ones who invited learning into the conversation. They turned uncertainty into collaboration.
In one project, a senior engineer admitted he wasn’t sure how to solve an issue and asked the team to experiment together. That single act flattened the hierarchy. Suddenly, everyone contributed ideas without hesitation.
It wasn't just about fixing the problem. We built trust, and with it, velocity.
Humility is contagious. When leaders model curiosity, they give others permission to learn out loud.
