Dr Horvath
I almost didn’t run for president. I was a quiet first-year, first-gen college student who loved code and avoided the spotlight. Dr. Elizabeth Horvath changed that.
As my programming instructor, department chair, and club advisor, she asked me to lead the Computer and Technology Club. Then she taught me how to build a travel budget, raise funds, and squeeze every ounce of value from LinuxWorld 2004 conference in San Francisco. She also pointed me to Python early, a decision that has paid off again and again.
Today she builds and teaches her innovative Python with Raspberry Pi course and wrote a fantastic book on the subject. More than skills, she modeled what it looks like when a woman leads with unapologetic passion for technology and education. The ripple effect has reached thousands of students. I’m one of them.
She isn’t on LinkedIn, but she will always be in my story. Thank you, Dr. Horvath.
If you’re reading this, thank a mentor who changed your trajectory. Tag them if you can.
