Why Would A Senior Sre Take A Beginner Python For Devops Course

Why would a senior SRE take a beginner-friendly "Python for DevOps" course? To vet it for the folks I mentor.

I mentor quite a few people who are new to coding, interested in DevOps, and based in India. When Akhilesh Mishra launched a Python for DevOps cohort in IST, I enrolled with my own money so I could evaluate it before recommending it.

No sponsorship. No affiliation. Just due diligence.

First session highlights:

Onboarding was smooth. A WhatsApp group opened weeks in advance with a beginner-friendly prep resource.

Live coding from first principles: print, f-strings, variables, basic string functions.

Practical modules: os for filesystem tasks, subprocess for shell interactions, functions for reuse.

Finished with a simple web scraper built step-by-step.

Teaching style felt like pair programming with a calm driver. Clear explanations, questions answered in real time, and troubleshooting shown instead of hand-waved.

This course is great for:

  • Beginners to Python who want a DevOps flavor.
  • Learners who benefit from live, interactive sessions in IST.
  • Anyone who prefers practical examples over slides.

My take so far is that the pacing was a bit slow for me as an experienced Python/SRE, which means it is just right for true beginners. I’m curious to see how far we go in the next sessions.

If you are in IST and want an interactive path into Python for DevOps, check out Akhilesh Mishra’s course. Happy to share notes or answer questions. Drop a comment or DM and I’ll point you to details.

Want a shorter version too?

TL;DR: I paid to join Akhilesh Mishra’s “Python for DevOps” to vet it for my mentees. Smooth onboarding, beginner-first pacing, live coding from basics to a simple web scraper, lots of practical Q&A. Not sponsored. If you learn best live and you’re on IST, it’s worth a look. DM for details. #Python #DevOps #IST
